Going at it alone

Posted by Debbie Rosenbaum

To date, the most memorable moment of working on this case occurred at the end of last semester.  I had had 2 finals and a 30-page paper due on Net Neutrality in a three day time span last December around the time we were set to go to Rhode Island to defend Joel’s parents in court.  I was apologizing to a journalist for not getting back to him sooner.

“Well, at least you guys have real attorneys to help out during difficult time management situations,” he said.

I paused.  “Um. No.  It’s just us.  Really,” I replied.

“Wait. You mean to tell me that the people behind all the legal work are *only* students?” he asked.

“It’s just us,” I said.  “That’s part of what makes this so challenging.  And so exciting.”

We have been fortunate in that there have been dozens of stories and hundreds of blog posts written about our work defending Joel.  But what seems to captivate the most attention is who we are – one professor and a handful of passionate students.  The twitter account I started weeks ago has been wonderfully successful in connecting, educating, and advocating.  We’re starting this blog with the hopes of sharing insights and tribulations (reality TV minus the TV) as we work on a case that defines our generation.

This is our story.

And it’s your story too.

Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is a lot more than I expected for when I found a link on Digg telling that the info here is awesome. Thanks.
